O YIORIKAS KAI PANIKAS
In memory of my first journey to Trabzon, Turkey, (Pontos, land of my ancestors), I wanted to recognize my first travel partners, Yiorgos Sofianidis (Pontian singer/right) from Kozani, Greece and Panika Savvidis (left) also of Kozani, Greece. While Yiorgos Sofianidis continues to keep traditional (Pontian/Black Sea) music alive, our dear friend Panika Savvidis was sadly lost to cancer a few years ago. In this photo of the two of them, on that first epic journey, this photograph captures the love of Pontian music and culture shared by both; One, a dance & music instructor, the other a performer. Together, they stand for all Pontians as a symbol of pride.

Fall colors and warm temperatures made for a great day for classes to be held out doors. Students from the Dance department gathered on the steps along MaGill Walk. With Parrish (main bldg/background) in the background  and tree’s lining it’s path, Swarthmore’s lends itself to captures beautiful moments of that encompass both students and nature.

BOAT HOUSE ROW-DUSK
Philadelphia, USA. November 6th, 2011
Along the east river drive of Philadelphia’s Schuylkill River, “Boat House Row” comes alive at dusk. Boathouse Row is a historic site located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on the east bank of the Schuylkill River, just north of the Fairmount Water Works and the Philadelphia Museum of Art. It consists of a row of 15 boathouses housing social and rowing clubs and their racing shells. Each of the boathouses has its own history, and all have addresses on both Boathouse Row and Kelly Drive(named after famous Philadelphia oarsman John B. Kelly, Jr.).

Shooting campus stock this morning at Swarthmore, I came across a nice visual. Apparently the students must have come out and laid pumpkins across the old stone entrance to the campus.

Blow Out!
Widener University’s homecoming football game was no football game at all. Instead, it was a one sided trouncing, Widener U. 70, Kings College 0. Instead of focusing on the game, I chose to capture the acrobatic display of the Widener cheerleaders that kept the audience’s attention with their whirling midair tosses.
